ProblemSolved

Privacy Policy

Last updated 28 September 2026.

ProblemSolved ("we", "us") is the responsible party, as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), for the personal information you provide when you use this site. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.

What we collect

  • Your email address, when you report a dispute or sign in — used only to confirm you own a case and to let you sign back in later. It is never published publicly; the public case page only shows a masked version (e.g. j***@example.com).
  • The dispute title and description you write, which is published publicly as part of the public case record — this is the core purpose of the service.
  • Company sign-in email, if you sign in as a company representative — used only to match you to the company whose work email domain you signed in with.
  • Standard technical data (IP address) used briefly to prevent abuse of the submission and update forms.

Automatic screening of your submission

Before a dispute description is stored or published, we automatically scan it and mask anything that looks like a South African ID number, phone number, email address, or card number. This is a best-effort filter, not a guarantee — it can miss unusual formats. It does not detect medical aid, membership, or policy numbers, since these have no fixed national format we can reliably match. Please leave those out yourself when describing your dispute.

Why we process this information

We rely on your consent (given via the declaration checkbox when you submit a dispute) to publish your report, and on our legitimate interest in operating a public consumer-accountability record — comparable in nature to other public complaint platforms — to keep that record available. We only use your email address for the purposes stated above; we do not sell or share it with third parties, and we do not use it for marketing.

How long we keep it

Published dispute records are kept indefinitely as part of the public historical record, unless you request deletion (see below) or we determine content should be removed under our Terms of Service. Your email address is retained for as long as your account or case remains active, so you can continue to manage it.

Where your data is stored

This site is built on cloud infrastructure (Supabase, on AWS) that may process and store data outside South Africa. Where personal information is transferred across borders, we rely on the safeguards our infrastructure providers have in place and on the transfer being necessary to perform the service you asked for, per POPIA section 72.

Your rights

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
  • Ask us to delete your personal information or a case you reported.
  • Object to how we process your information, or withdraw consent.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe we've mishandled your information.

To exercise any of these rights, email legal@problemsolved.org.za from the email address your case or account is registered under. We'll respond within a reasonable time.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
